The Founder and Gallery director, Peter Madden

Peter Madden

Peter Madden (Brisbane 1958) opened Galerie Boomerang in July 1993.

Peter Madden did not come from an art background.  “My initial encounter with post war art was in 1984/85 walking through Madrid’s Del Prado Museum and being confronted by Picasso’s “Guernica”. That afternoon changed my life. “

I started collecting artwork from local Dutch artists and within a decade from that initial affliction, I opened my first gallery.

I decided to concentrate on art from my own back yard and focus on my 3 great passions. Art, Aboriginal culture and Amsterdam.  Galerie Boomerang in the Boomstraat was born.

Founder and Gallery director

I have formed many alliances during the many visits to all corners of Australia and have built long friendships and working relationships with artists, Aboriginal run art Centres, gallery owners and dealers of First Nation art.

Since 1993, the gallery has introduced, in particular, Indigenous Australian art and culture to many Europeans serving as a conduit between the cultures.

I have contributed and help curate major exhibitions, “Desert Tracks”, “Dreamings”

“Who’s Afraid of Red, Black and Yella”, and “Contemporary Aboriginal art”.

In addition, I have served as a consultant to museums, collectors, auctions houses, independent curators, Australian embassies and publishing companies.
